Starting from November 25, 2011, Half The Sky Public Education in collaboration with UNWomen are promoting two public service advertisements through TV, public transport mobile media and the Internet.
The two 15-second PSAs are part of a nation-wide campaign in collaboration with UN Women to encourage the public to knock on a neighbor’s door when they hear domestic violence.
This campaign was made possible with Bleu Arc Pictures Productions who filmed the advertisements and Shaanxi Women Research Institute who helped with distribution in Shaanxi.
In the first stage of the campaign, the PSAs have reached 9 million people.
The campaign was reported by a few medias and publications. It also started a lively dialogue on the intervention of domestic violence. See what people are saying on the micro-blogs:
We want to give the public concrete suggestions to action. We are telling everyone: Do something. Knock on the door.
The idea of the campaign came from India’s “Ring the Bell” campaign, which is an internationally successful model for in- tervention of domestic violence, and is a campaign personally endorsed by the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon. Half The Sky Public Education adopted this model and Breakthrough, the organization behind India’s “Ring the Bell” campaign is now our unofficial consultant.
